When the festive season came up last year, I realised that I did not want to start writing cards. It is an old tradition in many homes and businesses to send good wishes and express gratitude. As much as I like the idea of the tradition, I truly dislike writing the cards. So I started looking for an alternative way to thank my customers, my network, the people who have supported me and built bridges.
I asked a business partner
By stripping the essence and breaking with the unpleasant part of a tradition, I gained in 4 ways:
- I want to be honest, my initial motivation was how to avoid hours of writing cards. That goal definitely got achieved!
- Supporting a cause, where you share the values gives you a great feeling, a silent sense of thankfulness. Replaced the unpleasant stretch between “finding a personal note” and “do your duty, get through the pile” with a positive action
- I met engaged and inspiring people, who in return introduced me to their network. And I was very touched when the Capacity team immediately reached out to me. Their engagement to make a difference is really striking: already in the first meeting, the solution to an operational business problem occurred.
- And I gained new clients! People who saw the
post, checked out my profile, got interested in social selling and personal branding.
When consulting my clients, I inspire to approach business problems, usually related to questions around B2B Sales, by thinking outside the box. Define what your goal is and why you want to achieve it. In the digital times it is important to think outside the box and to look for new ways to achieve goals – and maybe even to rethink the goals.
